Instant Love – waaaay better than instant coffee

So I’m still at the hospital, attempting to post from my BlackBerry. We’ll see how it goes though, since I’ve never posted from it before and ya I don’t really know what’s going on here 😀

So for those of you who follow me on Twitter, you already know this…but that’s okay 🙂 Anyone else will be shocked to find out that LC has already made his appearance – three weeks ahead of schedule!

It was quite hilarious actually. I had false labor on Monday and ever since then my mom made jokes like “if you’re gonna do anything unplanned, do it while we’re already down in TO”. Thursday I had my OB appointment at 10:15am, and just after I was seen I started having mad cramps and constant contractions. I was in labor! Active labor! I was in labor right through my ultrasound appointment at 12 too, where they confirmed that LC was indeed breech.

So they sent me over to Mount Sinai and I waited to have a c-section. I was freaking out silently the entire time – all because of the darn needle. It turns out that I shouldn’t have worried so much. I didn’t feel a thing! Barely felt any pressure either! And it took a short while for my lower half to completely freeze. That was the weirdest feeling ever! Not feeling pain but pressure…crazy!

At 8:39pm on Thursday, April 23rd I heard the soft cries and complaints of a newborn baby as soon as they pulled him from my belly. I got to watch TH’s stunned face as he gazed upon our son for the first time. I think he might have been crying, but it was hard to tell through my own tears. Our son – Nolan Daniel – is insanely handsome. Every little feature is so perfect, even his “little old man hair” as I call it (he’s got more hair on the back and side of his head than he does the top hehe). The look on TH’s face when he held Nolan in his arms for the first time truly was priceless – and everything was totally worth the pain and discomfort I’m feeling now. I can’t look at Nolan and be upset about my now oddly shaped stomach (and the stapples in the shape of a “smile” – a Tim Burton smile).
They stappled me up and tranfered me to a bed and then allowed me to hold him while they moved me to recovery. He is so precious and I didn’t want to put him down – but I had too. His colouring was off because he wasn’t breathing normally.

Further tests confirmed liquid on the lungs – something quiet common for c-section babies. They thought he dislocated his leg, but now they’re thinking its just hypertension from being in the bum down breech position for the past 4 weeks. This means his feet where up near his head. Poor baby 🙁

Right now we’re both doing well, Nolan is coasting on the same levels as yesterday and I’m pooped. He’s still having breathing issues but his leg seems to be less sore.

Liquid on the lungs can take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks to clear, so I can’t say when Nolan will be coming home. I hope Monday – cause that’s when they boot me out. If I have to leave without him, I’m hoping to get in the Ronald McDonald house. We will see though cause its apparently packed and waitlisted. Keep your fingers crossed that he’ll be able to come home Monday!

TH, Nolan and I are doing well. I may not get around to responding to comments/tweets for a while but don’t take it personally, I’m exhausted and using a blackberry for communicating. I am reading EVERYTHING though and its all so amazing that you guys care so much! I just wanted to say thank you!
