Enough is ENOUGH.

I am at my wits end with this whole damn rental company and our house!
I’m tired of the bullshit. I’m tired of picking up after other people every single day…
I’m tired of not having a decent yard or a decent space for my kids to play in. I’m tired of the destructive neighbors who don’t know how to put their garbage in a damn dumpster.
I’m tired of the people who vandalize others’ property.
Yesterday, we woke up to this:
In case you can’t read it, it says “f*ck garage n*gger! 12.12.12. n*gger”
Yup. Somebody took Nolan’s chalk and wrote that on our house, right by our front door.
Really mature, huh?? They also stole the green chalk.
Thankfully they left Nolan’s little trucks and bucket, otherwise he’d be pissed {and I’d be more pissed}.
I probably shouldn’t have left that stuff outside, but honestly I have been forgetting to bring it in for the past week or so and I kinda just thought that, because no harm came to our stuff before, that maybe the neighbors had grown up a bit and started to respect other peoples’ shit….
Considering the chalk, trucks, etc…they were ALL beside my front door, ON my porch.
Who the hell comes right up on your porch and just helps themselves?!
This is exactly why we haven’t gotten a BBQ.
Matt’s caught people trying to break into his truck before, and we’ve picked up countless broken beer bottles from people smashing them against our house. Our dryer vent is missing, and we have never had the privilege of a hose hookup because it’s been sealed off.
Not to mention how disgusting our front yard is because of the dumpsters and peoples inability to PUT THEIR GARBAGE IN THE DUMPSTER.

I called the rental company with all my complaints, and I was told:
1) The dryer vent is {SOMEHOW} our responsibility, and we need to replace it…never mind the fact that we live beside a trail and damage happens BECAUSE of that trail, not because of us….
and
2) We basically have to suck up the appearance {all the garbage and glass} because there’s “nothing they can do about it” and if we don’t like it we can “clean it ourselves”.
I found out that we’re paying MORE for our end unit than the end unit across the street.
Same house, same amount of rooms and bathrooms, and they moved in after us.
They don’t have nearly the amount of trouble that we have.
I also found out that our rental company is basically on a blacklist, for their horrible reputation.
I’m scared of what will happen if we stay here, so we’re going to start looking at getting the HELL out of here.
I’m going to have a lawyer with us throughout this process, because I know the rental company will try and squeeze every damn penny they can from us.
And they do a lot of illegal shit, and I won’t stand to have to pay for it.
Keep your fingers crossed that we can find a 3 bedroom house rental within our price range…
I have my hopes set on a duplex for 925, but since it was posted a month ago I’m really not all that confident it will still be available…
But, if all else fails, we’ll rent through the city. Rent is significantly cheaper and they are up to code and keep everything LEGAL.
So, yeah. That’s what’s happening.
Today I’m leaving to visit family and friends down south.
I’m sure I’ll be blogging a bit, but you’ll mostly hear from me on Twitter or instagram. The username for both is: missbadcompany so add me up!

  1. I'm sorry to hear about all the issues you are having, it must be extremely frustrating! I think moving may be for the best thing for your family. I think back about all the BS I put up with at our previous home and how thankful I am now to have made the move because now we have an awesome landlord! Best of luck to you!! Keep us posted on the duplex, I saw the pics on IG and that kitchen was amazing!!

  2. That sounds like a really sucky situation!! Good luck, I hope you can find a nice place soon. We're looking too but there's no way we can afford anymore than 2 bedrooms… So hopefully the kids won't mind sharing a room.

  3. Well good for you for being ready to move on and find a better location to live. Honestly, I was a little worried when I saw this photo. That's kind of scary! And to be treated like that by your rental company!? Absolute bull shit. You'll find an affordable home, sometimes it just takes a little longer to find that perfect place for you and your fam.

  4. Aw, that's so bogus. Renting can be a real drag sometimes. I once rented a place and woke up to swastikas spray painted right outside my door, on the sidewalk, and on the picnic table outside. The vandals also wrote “J was here” and because my name starts with J and the vandalism was closest to my place, the rental company thought it was me. Despite the fact that I had been an outstanding tenant! Good luck finding a better place… you don't deserve the crap you're dealing with now.

  6. It's ghetto like that where I live, too. I hate it. Mike and I are trying to get out of this neighborhood, but my *grandmother, *her sister, *my great-grandmother, and my parents are probably going to be living here for at least another five years (since *they co-own the house and aren't ready to move into apartments just yet).

That rental company sounds ridiculous. I get that they can't control who walks through the property — we used to have people walking through our yard at our old apartment at all hours of the day (and sometimes they'd stop and stare through my window while I slept, gah) — but I don't at all see how the damage to a dryer vent that is attached to their property is your responsibility. That's complete bullshit. >.< I guess I also kind of get that they can't control the glass and garbage. By right they should be the ones to maintain it since it's their freaking property, but if it's happening all of the time, it might not be realistic for them to keep coming to the property to clean it up. I don't think it's your responsibility, though. Hopefully you can find something else out of that area and in your budget soon. Maybe take the boys to a nearby park in the meantime so they're safe from the glass and garbage. You shouldn't have to deal with that shit. ♥
