So last night I did my first ever live interview for Book Chat with Tracie & Lashell. (I mentioned this yesterday, I know. There’s a point for the reminder – I swear). All day long, I was so nervous. I’ve never done anything like that before – I’ve never been interviewed live for any purpose at all. The closest I came was when I was fifteen years old and the Life’s Little Miracles producers wanted to feature me on their show (as I was a patient at Sick Kids hospital with a rare chronic pain bone disorder, about to undergo yet another surgery). I missed the boat on responding, and never did get to go on the show (which, in hindsight, I now regret).
I was afraid I’d mess up, or make a massive fool out of myself. I don’t think I did, though. I’m told by those who watched it that I was great and my answers were awesome. The only issue was my microphone (stupid laptop). Now I know that I should probably invest in one of those fancy headsets for future interviews (if anyone wants to interview me after the whole “toaster erotica” thing. Seriously, I know how to raise the roof…I guess).
I was nervous though. Hence the whole swaying thing (swivel chairs are really distracting, I kept swiveling back and forth because it’s a SWIVEL CHAIR!). I also had no idea where to look, because my camera lens is so tiny and I only realized after the fact where it actually is. Apparently, I need to get better acquainted with my equipment. (That could be perceived as dirty. My bad).
If you didn’t get a chance to watch the interview when it was happening live, you can watch it now:
I’m feeling pretty fantastic about having popped my live interview cherry, and Tracie and Lashell were both fantastic hosts. Thanks again for having me ladies!
Now onto my next nerve inducing experience: my first ever author event at the Live The Hype event in Toronto on June 13th! I will have paperback copies of Collide on hand and I will be signing things! (Hopefully, I spell my name right. Baby steps). You can still buy tickets to go if you want to check out myself and other fantastic authors.
