J.C. Hannigan’s Top Reads of 2016

It’s that time of year again! The 2016 wrap up posts are coming full throttle. At the top of my wrap up post list is Top Reads for 2016!

Seriously, I read so many amazing books in 2016. These are the ones that I need in paperback on my bookshelf. (Hint hint, husband…hint hint.)

A Gift of Time by Beth Flynn

Beth Flynn nails it again with another flawless novel. I fell hard for Grizz and Ginny in Nine Minutes. Grunt too. This entire series has been a fantastic ride and I loved the way Beth wrapped everything up. I’m extremely satisfied–although I hope I’ll see more of the gang soon in another book…perhaps with Christian and Mimi?

Deep Redemption by Tillie Cole

I’m really not at all surprised that Tillie Cole managed to make me fall in love with Rider. I thought I’d hate him, but Tillie made it impossible. Rider’s internal conflict between right and wrong, his realization that everything he believed and everything that he’d built himself upon was wrong and the depths he went to in order to find redemption made falling for him easy. Harmony was an incredible heroine: despite how scarred she was from her past, she risked it all to save everyone else.

Dirty English by Ilsa Madden-Mills

Declan was an incredible male lead — swoon worthy in every way. I loved their back stories and the way the author told them. I loved Elizabeth’s growth too. This was a very rejuvenating read and I definitely recommend it!

The Hard Count by Ginger Scott

I don’t think I can adequately describe just how amazing The Hard Count by Ginger Scott truly was. It had everything — characters that were real and believable, a gripping storyline, and angst! Ginger knows how to write angst! I loved the two star-crossed lovers theme. I loved the school politics and sports drama. The issues these characters faced are very real and raw, and Ginger approaches them with class.

Plus the chemistry! Nico and Reagan were so adorable together. I shipped them in the first chapter I read — I love watching a good “I can’t stand him” turn into an “I can’t get enough of him”. And we definitely can’t ignore how Ginger ripped my heart out and made me completely panic for a bit there. I did not see that coming! I love it when a favourite author can still surprise you.

The Bird and the Sword by Amy Harmon

This book was phenomenal! Amy Harmon’s writing is flawless, this story consumes you in the best way possible. I didn’t want to put it down!

Hold My Breath by Ginger Scott

Ginger Scott continuously blows my mind with her story telling capabilities. This novel was powerful, raw, and tragically beautiful. Will Hollister is one HELL of a male lead! Ginger Scott makes the list twice because there’s no doubt about it, she is a book boyfriend sorceress!

Garrett by Karla Sorensen

I have loved every one of Karla Sorensen’s books so far, and GARRETT lived up to my expectations. I loved Aurora’s character, and I loved the chemistry between the two of them. Karla writes a magical love story and I can’t wait for Tristan’s story!

Back To Yesterday by Whitney Barbetti

The conclusion to this two part series couldn’t be any more perfect. Whitney Barbetti took me on a ride of heart ache, yearning, and forgiveness.

This is one of my favourite series too date! #tentguy #forever

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

This is one of those books that remains you with long after you read it. Hopeful, inspiring, and tragic-it lingers in an unforgettable way and is still one of my top reads of 2016.

Tonic by Staci Hart

I’d been waiting for Joel’s book not-so-patiently after getting glimpses of him in Staci’s Bad Habits series. This book definitely didn’t disappoint! I loved the chemistry between Joel and Annika–it was seriously smoking hot, and the drama that unfolded kept me on the edge of my seat, just waiting to see if this power couple would be able to rise above the issues keeping them apart. Plus, that cover remains to be one of my FAVOURITES of 2016!

justonemoreminyourstobarepaperprincessJust One More Minute by Elizabeth Barone

This quirky, adorable small town romance warmed my heart and made me smile. I can’t get enough of Matt and Rowan, and luckily Elizabeth gave in to my demands and wrote a Christmas novella featuring them!

Yours To Bare by Jessica Hawkins

Ever since reading Slip of The Tongue, I’ve rooted for Finn to get his happily ever after. Frankly, I never liked him with Sadie. It just didn’t fit. But Halston…Halston was perfect for Finn. Jessica did a wonderful job with Halston’s character and her struggles with mental health. I really, truly felt as if I was a part of the story–like I was living through and feeling the same emotions she was.

Paper Princess, Broken Prince, and Twisted Palace by Erin Watt

I consumed this entire series in less than three days. Erin Watt’s writing drew me in, and the drama, chemistry, and intriguing world of the Royals kept me coming back for more. It was a fun read, and while some of the drama seemed a bit much at times, overall it was worth it. I hope Erin writes more about the Royals, because I’m already missing Reed!
